Blizzard just released their Q2 2014 earnings today, highlighted by the not so unexpected announcement that the World of Warcraft is down to 6.8 million subscribers. This number is down 800k from the Q1 2014 call that stated the MMORPG’s subscriber count at 7.6 million.
From today’s earnings call Mark Morhaime; “There was a decline in subscribers quarter over quarter, which was disproportionately concentrated in the East and was similar to the seasonal decline experienced during the second quarter of 2012, prior to the launch of the most recent expansion later that year”.

Warcraft’s Destiny
Dustin returns to the show after his fateful cabling accident just in time to have one of the larger Blue Sky segments we have ever had as we discuss the Death of the MMO genre. OK that is pretty hyperbolic but we do go into some detail on the changing MMO landscape including giving you our takes on an issue near and dear to all of us, the lack of timely content generation. We also dive headlong into speculation on what is coming and what needs to change to keep the true MMORPG’s relevant as new games like Destiny start to encroach on the genre this and next generation.

First we introduce Jarod Nandin who is the genius behind the cosplay hit “He who has no life” from the South Park episode “Make Love not Warcraft”. It turns out that Jarod actually does have a life and was a super fun guest to have on board with us this week. After some great discussion on Jarod’s cosplay past, present and future (don’t forget to check out the links below) we move on to a reader suggested top 5 of our favorite Blue Sky wants and desires for the World… of Warcraft.

No Fly Zone
This week on Horde for Life we launch into some more Garrison talk after Rich expresses his hate for Molten Core. From buildings and play styles to followers and mods we share our Garrison thoughts as our experiences grow. The crew then has a very interesting discussion on the lack of flying in Draenor including the potential harm to the game that comes from excluding our airborn activities in Draenor. We then go deep into some Blue Sky on a simple mechanic to tie the game world and content togther.
On the PVP front, we challenge why grinding is essential or a fun componenet of the game and Rich talks about the fun that was had as a guest host on the Darkmoon Herald podcast (episode 80) including what is missing from the Tarren Mill/Southshore battleground.
